Digamber Jain college was establish by Jain community in 20th Jan 1916 to meet the growing demand of education in Baraut. In 1947 the college gained the status of a degree college and 1960 onwards upgraded to Postgraduate courses. Now the college has awarded the status of minority. It would not be an exaggeration to state that the college was the culmination of the founders practical wisdom and painstaking effort to meet the long standing aspirations of the traditionally background populace of Baraut, for academic upliftment, cultural enrichment and economic advancement, located on an impressive campus in the heart of small town. The Institution throughout, the history of its existence, has been striving for the emancipation of these masses through the lofty means of education, and can take genuine pride in the fair level of success it has achieved in this direction.
The institution could make rapid strides on a steady course of diversified expansion in terms of building and facilities, the spectrum of courses offered, and academic and extra-academic intervention has been tremendously augmented. Besides the space earmarked for tutorial and administrative purpose, the institution also offers facilities such as a new auditorium situated near by ‘C’ field, Gymnasium, a canteen, Mahaveer conference hall, a well maintained girls common hall, a well maintained staff room, one reading room, Computer lab, Smart class, a counseling cell in Psychology department, Prof. colony, and an open air auditorium situated in ‘A’ field.
The academic environment of the campus is enriched by faculty strength 61 and a student-intake capacity of 3000. Post graduate courses are offered 10 disciplines such as Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Geography, History, Psychology, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and under graduate courses are offered in 06 disciplines such as Commerce, Statistics, B.Ed., Drawing and Painting, Political Science and Sports & Physical Education.
The main objective of college is to contribute to the transformation of prevailing social conditions by education the youth belonging to all the section of the society so that the value enshrined in the constitution of India such as social justice, equality of opportunity, democratic freedom to all and the tolerance and respect to all religion may be brought closer to realization and prove an asset for the building of the nation. The founders of the intuition believed that the country can lead on all fronts if the young minds are impaired quality education sensitizing them about their social responsibilities. Thus includes thrust not only class room studies but also active participation of the students in the extracurricular activities during their education.
Presently, the institution is very much aware that the dimensions and quality of education keep on changing with time. The quality can not be assessed by a single yard stick, such as class room teaching. Rather it can be monitored through the changes in national and global trends in various walks of life. It is important for any centre of higher education to know that services lies in impairing that kind of education which may inculcate moral values and motivate young minds towards research for the future not only of our country but for entire world. Another important aspect of education in today’s times is to develop the soft skills of the student in order to make him/her competitive in the employment market.
